Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Week 3

On Friday 28th and Tuesday 2nd April 2017, Our Dementia ambassadors proceeded with week 3 of our Cognitive Stimulation therapy with Wheatland’s Supreme and Bonny Wheatland’s Clan. All members of the group attended the session.

Our third session was ‘‘being creative’’, Our Dementia Ambassadors came up with a wonderful idea of recycling our large tins from the kitchen and turning them into plant pots for the participants to get creative with designing and painting their own plants pot for our sensory garden and planting shed. Wheatland’s Supreme and Bonny Wheatland’s Clan reacted well to this activity and seem to enjoy being a little creative, some creating abstract plant pots using bright colours.

The warm up is another 10-15minute activity where we can use the ball to either get to know who everyone is or when the ball is thrown to you in this instance we asked that everyone tell us ‘where their favourite place was and why?’. Every week we try and use a different question but also recapping on what last week’s questions and answers were. Participants all answered with different places among them where Austen a country which boarders Holland, Hastings, Calendar, Bonnybridge, Comrie, Stirling and the beach. All gave a meaningful reason why.

After the warm up we got a little bit messy with our paints and plant pots, using primary colours to create different colour to use such as red and blue we made purple. This was a very enjoyable activity for our dementia ambassadors and our residents. We plan to further use or plant pots we created to plant our own flowers in a later session.

In the closing 10minutes we thank everyone individually for attending and summarized what was discussed. We sang our theme song (Which I think we are getting better at doing every week) and reminded our group of our once a week session.

If you have an interest or are interested for your relative please feel free to speak to one of our Dementia Ambassadors. If you are unsure of Wheatland’s Dementia Ambassadors you can find all their information on the Dementia Ambassadors Notice Board outside the Managers office.
