Two Balhousie Care Group employees have made it onto awards shortlists, adding to the care home group’s growing list of accolades.

Finance Director Mike Reid (pictured) has been shortlisted as Financial Director of the Year in the Private Company category of the FDs’ Excellence Awards, organised by The FD Surgery. The awards ceremony takes place in London on May 1st.

Meanwhile Karen Buchan, Senior People Services Advisor at Balhousie Care Group, is a finalist in the Fantastic HR Advisor category of the cHeRries Awards 2018, organised by The Press and Journal. The awards ceremony takes place on June 1st in Aberdeen.

Mike, who joined in 2014, has helped turn around Balhousie Care Group from a company facing major challenges and losing money, to one which is a leader in its sector and turning a profit. He has also overseen a £49m refinancing of the business, now in its 25th year of operation and with 25 care homes across Scotland.

Karen, educated at Abertay University in Dundee, has been an integral part of the repositioning of Balhousie Care Group’s human resources team, now called the people services team – and a cultural shift across the company. This shift has brought with it a focus on recognising every staff member’s skills, and involving residents and family members in care decisions.

The shortlistings are the latest in a line of accolades for Balhousie Care Group, which saw its Operations Director, Louise Barnett, named Operations Manager of the Year at the 2017 National Care Awards, and two of its care homes achieve the highest Care Inspectorate rank of Grade 6 in the last year.

Steve White, CEO at Balhousie Care Group, said:

“We are delighted at this recognition of Mike’s and Karen’s achievements. Both have played a crucial role in the new, fresh direction which Balhousie Care Group has been following for the last two years. Balhousie Care is very much a team effort, and the fact that Mike and Karen are finalists in these prestigious awards prove it.”
