Perth and Kinross Swimming Project

Throughout September and October, residents of Balhousie homes took part in the latest GO for Gold Challenge Swimming Project at Perth Leisure Pool.

The project acts as part of meaningful activity for residents and tackles many social and health care aspects for people within our homes. It provides a great opportunity for individuals to take part in activity that they may once have enjoyed and provides the social environment for residents to interact with likeminded people.

Effie Morrison - Pitlochry Care Home

Effie Morrison from Pitlochry care home has taken part in the last two swimming projects and truly embodies the essence of the swimming project and what it aims to achieve.

Effie was taught to swim at the aged of three by her father, now in her 90’s, she attended the Tuesday swimming classes completing between five to six lengths on each occasion. The physical and mental benefit this brings is unmeasurable, with Effie commenting: ‘I am just so happy I can go in the water and swim. I feel young again!’.

The project is designed to enhance mobility and has significant impact with those who are unable to weight bare or who suffer with joint problems. Residents are supported by a carer and assisted by fully qualified swim attendants who help.
