Alison Miller on taking her new post as Care Home Manager at Coupar Angus wanted to make physical improvements within the unit which would improve the residents independance and enhance the care invironmentin which they live. A dementia friendly decor with individually themed walls to aid residents orientation and way-finding to their rooms. The sitting area was designed by Jacque Hovde with the help of the residents who choose the wall coverings & soft furnishings in creating a 1950's memory environment, complete with old Singer sewing machine.

The next faze which is starting this week is to create a dementia-friendly dementia sensory garden for the residents to enjoy with their friends & families. All planned improvements will create a calming & relaxing environment using design and colour to create their sensory garden, every part is to stimulate the senses through sight, smell and touch.

The feedback from the unit has proved to be a positive effect on the residents well-being and quality of life.
