As many know, Balhousie Care Group is celebrating 25 years this year and one of the people who have been there for it all, Terry Banks, is set to say farewell to Balhousie and enjoy a well-earned retirement!

25 years at Balhousie Care Group

Terry has been part of Balhousie since its beginnings 25 years ago, helping her parents and brother Tony to fix up the company’s first care home, Balhousie Lisden in Kirriemuir. Terry is the older sister of Tony, Balhousie Chairman and Founder. For Terry, working with her little brother has been a joy. “I’ve always looked after him as we are so close in age” says Terry. “I’m really proud of him and what he’s achieved and it’s been wonderful to have played a part in that too.”

You could say Terry’s career has come full circle. She went from welcoming babies into the world in her midwifery post with NHS Tayside, which she left almost 18 years ago to go full time at Balhousie, to caring for those in the last moments of their life.

Terry has worked in various roles over her time, from care home manager, area manager to her current role as operations support managers, working closely with operations director Louise Barnett. “It’s always changing, there’s never a boring day at Balhousie” says Terry. Louise comments: “Terry has played a key role in the team at Balhousie. Her knowledge and experience has been invaluable. I will most certainly miss Terry but wish her a long and happy retirement.”

Happy retirement

Speaking of her upcoming retirement, it’s bitter-sweet for Terry. “I’ve done a lot here at Balhousie but I do think now is the right time to retire. The business is in a fantastic place and there’s a really great team in place. Now, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends.”

Reflecting on her time at Balhousie Care Group, Terry says: “I’ve been really privileged to have been part of Balhousie for so long. I’ve loved what I’ve done, I’ve loved the people I’ve worked with and I’ve loved the people I’ve looked after all of these years.”

We speak for everyone here at Balhousie Care Group in thanking Terry for everything she has done over the last 25 years to help make Balhousie what it is today and wish her the very best in her retirement.
