In February 2009, Balhousie Alastrean Care Home welcomed entertainer, Jack Mearns. Jack entertained the residents with a variety of well known songs on his keyboard. Jack was known to many of the residents as son of Johnnie Mearns, a well known entertainer in North East Scotland who performed in theatres as well as making numerous recordings (now on CD). On finishing his set the residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of reminiscence with Jack.

Words of appreciation...
- Now that I am living in Australia, Skype has been a fantastic way of keeping in touch with Mum. Thank you Balhousie for providing this facility Daughter of Resident at Balhousie Alastrean Care Home
- The thing I most enjoy is the interaction with residents and family members. Being part of a team that delivers high quality care, often in the latter years of an individual's life, while trying to promote their independence is a big responsibility. I think it's hugely important to be able to make that time as easy and comfortable as possible. Manager, Balhousie Lisden Care Home
