Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) has received a donation of more than £43,000 from Balhousie Care Group, Scotland's largest independent provider of care.
CHAS is the group's official nominated charity and the money was raised through a variety of fundraising schemes, including events held at its 20 care homes across the country and a payroll giving scheme. Balhousie Care Group's Italian Job charity ball, held at the Dundee Hilton Hotel earlier this year, raised around £30,000 for CHAS, with 250 guests being wined and dined.
Roslyn Neely, Director of Fundraising and Communications at CHAS, attended the group's recent team conference at Dundee's Odeon cinema, where she was presented with a cheque for £43,102.
The cash will support CHAS' work providing the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-shortening conditions. Rachel House, Scotland's first children's hospice, opened in Kinross in March 1996, with Robin House in Balloch following in August 2005. The hospices support the whole family by offering short planned breaks, emergency support, end of life care and a range of bereavement services. CHAS also provides a home care service, called CHAS at Home, staffed from both hospices and with a dedicated team in Inverness. The service offers care to families in their own homes when they need it most.
Roslyn said: "On behalf of everyone at CHAS I'd like to thank all those who have been involved in raising this incredible amount. We are thrilled to be the chosen charity of Balhousie Care Group. This donation will allow us to create many happy memories for the children, young people and families who use our services across Scotland."
Tony Banks, Chairman and Founder of Balhousie Care Group said: "We are delighted to be able to continue our support for the valuable work that CHAS does at Rachel House, Robin House and CHAS at Home."
"Children and young adults, parents, siblings and grandparents all benefit enormously from the support and expertise of CHAS, which needs to raise £6million a year to provide these vital services, and we are glad to be able to help them reach this target."
"We share many common themes with CHAS, with care being at the heart of everything we do, so we are pleased to have raised such an incredible amount of money thanks to our own staff, residents, their families and our supporters."
