Residents and staff at Balhousie North Grove Care Home in Perth handed over a cash donation to Alzheimer Scotland this week.
Along with its sister home, Balhousie North Inch, the 36-bed purpose-built residential centre for people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia held a collection during Dementia Awareness Week 2011, which ran from June 6-12.
The £100 donation was accepted by Jackie Daly, chairperson of the Perth branch of Alzheimer Scotland.
Diane Halley, manager of North Grove and North Inch care homes, said: "Some of our residents and staff attended the opening of Alzheimer Scotland's Perth and Kinross services office in Perth and were impressed by the support on offer for people with Alzheimer's and their families.
"At Balhousie North Grove Care Home we specialise in the care of people with dementia and understand the challenges they can face, so we wanted to mark Dementia Awareness Week by showing our support for Alzheimer Scotland."
Other events were held at a number of Balhousie Care Group homes, including the newly opened care homes in Coupar Angus and Auchterarder.
Last year, Balhousie Care Group and Alzheimer Scotland joined forced to appoint a dedicated dementia nurse to work across the group's care homes, the first partnership of its kind in the country.
Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse Lyn McCulloch provides support and specialist dementia training for staff.
By increasing understanding and ensuring consistency in training, the partnership aims to achieve a 30% reduction in the number of residents with dementia who have to be admitted to hospital, with an extra reduction in the volume of medication prescribed.
Many of Balhousie Care Group's existing care homes already have specialised dementia units, such as North Grove, and the group is also collaborating with researchers at two universities who are studying ways to improve the lives of people with dementia.
As well as providing advice and support, Lyn's remit is also to develop documentation and care planning for people who have dementia.
Balhousie Care Group is one of the fastest growing operators of care homes in Scotland, with 22 homes across the country and a focus on personalised care.
Each of its care homes has received a pack with information on the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Helpline, associated support services and Alzheimer Scotland's work in the local area.

Words of appreciation...
- The thing I most enjoy is the interaction with residents and family members. Being part of a team that delivers high quality care, often in the latter years of an individual's life, while trying to promote their independence is a big responsibility. I think it's hugely important to be able to make that time as easy and comfortable as possible. Manager, Balhousie Lisden Care Home
- Caring to me means fulfilling residents' needs and requirements, making them comfortable and happy in the home environment Carer at Balhousie Pitlochry Care Home
