Balhousie Care Group appoints Tricia Stewart as Director of HR

Leading care provider Balhousie Care Group has appointed Tricia Stewart as Director of HR, as the company opens new homes and moves into new parts of Scotland.

Tricia is the latest addition to the group’s newly bolstered senior management team, ahead of planned growth over the next few years, including the opening of three homes currently under construction.

An experienced HR professional with knowledge of the commercial, public and charitable sectors, Tricia joins Balhousie Care Group from Southern Cross Healthcare, where she was Head of HR for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The company employed around 8,000 people in the region.

Tricia’s previous roles included eight years in senior HR positions with Scottish & Newcastle plc, and several years as a management development manager for Waitrose, where she designed a graduate training programme.

She also spent several years as an officer with the Royal Air Force, leading teams in catering, training and administration roles.

Tricia said she was pleased to have joined Perth-based Balhousie Care Group.

“I was attracted to Balhousie Care Group because of the opportunity to work with like-minded people, and I had met some of the team before and was impressed with the vision for the group.

“Recruitment and retention is an issue across the whole sector. We believe working in the care sector is a vocation rather than simply a job so it’s my responsibility to help ensure there is a career pathway in place, whether that is a care assistant training to become a nurse or becoming a manager. This will ensure we continue to attract the best people and retain them and their skills and knowledge.

“I have experience in introducing change and working with people to help them succeed, and take real satisfaction from seeing people achieve and progress up the ladder,” she said. “My remit is to oversee the HR department and all its functions, including recruitment, inductions, performance management and making sure our people have the training and development opportunities they need to progress personally as Balhousie also moves forward as a company.”

A graduate of the University of Strathclyde, Tricia is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Since 2006, she has been a non-executive director and is currently vice chair for Live Active Leisure, a not-for-profit organisation.

She lives in Perthshire with her husband and two children, aged 12 and 16. Away from work, Tricia enjoys the outdoors, particularly walking, kayaking and horse riding.

Graham Ogilvie, Balhousie Care Group’s Managing Director, welcomed her to the team.

“Tricia has vast experience in HR which will be invaluable as we continue to expand over the next few years, as our staff are at the very heart of the organisation and we want people to be proud to work for Balhousie Care Group.

“We have a very strong and experienced team and are looking forward to growing the business over the coming years, while still retaining our ethos of personalised care and choice for each of our residents.”
