The residents at Balhousie Stormont Care Home enjoyed a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment, on Monday 14th July, provided by Stormont’s Filipino members of staff (Lineth Aldas, Rebecca Glemao, Monotwo Aguilas, Gilda Florideliza, Ruby Toriales, Dina Colanse, Ruth and Rholmark). The entertainment provided involved traditional music, dancing and food from the Philippines.
The Philippines is divided into three large islands and these were represented to the residents in dance – Luzon (North Island): ‘Pandango Sa ilaw’ – the dance of the candles, Visayas (Central Island): Tinikling – the bamboo dance, and Mindanao (South Island): Singkil - the dance of fans. Singkil is a Muslim dance as most of the population living on the South island are Muslim.
At the end of the performance the residents were given handmade baskets with chocolates as a memento.
