Balhousie Lisden care home in Kirriemuir has been recognised for providing volunteer opportunities to pupils of Webster’s High School.
The care home has received a certificate of recognition for “providing a meaningful workplace experience” by Developing Young Workforce, a programme which aims to prepare young people for the world of work.
Balhousie Lisden’s close ties with the Kirriemuir school has inspired pupils to work in the care sector. Alessio Rizzo, a school volunteer from June 2016-June 2017 is now studying an Access to Nursing course at Dundee and Angus College after his time at Lisden confirmed to him that he wanted to work in the care industry.
Alessio said:
“I always knew I wanted to work in the care sector but my experience at Balhousie Lisden reinforced that idea further, as I really enjoyed everything about my time there. Since volunteering, I am now working towards studying to be a nurse and I feel the work experience was a definite factor in me getting accepted onto the course. I think it’s great that Balhousie Lisden is being recognised for providing volunteer opportunities because during my time there all of the staff were incredibly helpful, hospitable and very dedicated to their jobs.”

It’s extremely rewarding to feel you have inspired someone to develop their career in care. It’s lovely that Developing Young Workforce has recognised our hard work.”
