Balhousie Stormont Lodge care home residents have been demonstrating their team spirit by placing second in Perthshire’s annual Go for Gold challenge.

Residents joined other care home teams from across Perth and Kinross, including Balhousie Luncarty, North Inch, North Grove and Dalnaglar care homes, earlier this week at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth for a day of various active challenges. They participated in a range of sporting activities including a golf competition and a ‘hook the duck’ event.

Stormont Lodge came first in the poster competition which celebrated resident participation and met all of the criteria set out by Go for Gold.

One resident in particular, George Taylor, stole the show by using his ice-hockey experience from his younger days to shine in the curling competition.

Go for Gold is organised by Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Integration in partnership with Perth and Kinross Care Home Activity Network (CHAN), Live Active Leisure, the third sector and local care homes. The event invites care homes across the area to participate in the initiative, developed to encourage more physical activity in a fun and inclusive environment.

Cheryl Davies, home manager at Balhousie Stormont Lodge, said:

“Our residents had the most wonderful time taking part in the Go for Gold challenge and we are delighted with our performance. Everyone is bursting with pride and excitement about our overall second place finish and coming first in the poster competition. The Go for Gold challenge is such an inspiring way to encourage care home residents to be more active and we can’t wait to compete again next year.”
