Getting to know our residents' preferences is an extremely important aspect of helping our residents adjust to their new surroundings.
Understanding what they feel about the care we provide and the manner in which we look after them is also a vital component of "The Balhousie Way".
Before a new resident arrives at one of our care homes, the first thing we like to accomplish is a “getting to know you” fact finding session. This provides us with the foundations for us to get to know residents better and understand their likes and dislikes.
Specifically, we aim to understand things like:-
- What name do you prefer to be known by?
- What are your sleeping, waking up, dozing and evening sleep times...
...so that we can do our best to accommodate your normal daily routine in your new surroundings. You'll certainly not find anyone at a Balhousie Care home dictating when you have to wake or sleep. - A Balhousie Care home is YOUR home...
...somewhere you can be cared for by dedicated, friendly and attentive carers and nursing staff. But we never forget that making sure you're feeling comfortable in YOUR home, and that you have a genuine sense of being "at home" is the most important thing that we are committed to achieving. Making your bedroom truly "yours" - by adding a few items that are personal and familiar is just one small but important way we help you feel comfortable, safe and secure in your new surroundings. - Your dietary likes and dislikes

We're sure you'll be pleased with how accommodating and talented our chefs can be! Special dietary needs can be easily provided for and we'll even have a go at cooking “that special dish” you haven't had for ages - or maybe have previously enjoyed having every week! - Love to have thick cut marmalade with your brown toast in the morning?
Easy! Just tell your carer - and we'll try whenever we can to accommodate your request. You'll find that all Balhousie staff do whatever they can to make your stay with us as comforting and supportive as we can.
As we've said previously, we try to employ people that are naturally given to caring in a genuine, sincere and committed way. It's a vital necessity of understanding what "The Balhousie Way" really is all about - and being able to deliver it, to every resident, every day.
