I'm Sylvia Nicoll, proud care home manager of Balhousie Antiquary Care Home, from our "Classic" Collection.

Our home is one of the finest in the coastal town of Arbroath. It is generally regarded as one of the most desirable care home properties in the Balhousie Care Group "Classic" collection.

This purpose built home has an impressive yet calming, elegant feel. All resident bedrooms are tastefully decorated. Large, popular communal lounges and a very friendly atmosphere are dominant features of this home.

Myself and my proud and dedicated staff would be delighted to welcome you in person at Balhousie Antiquary and show you around our home. To arrange an appointment or to find out more about the care we provide please call 01241 434969 or contact me online.

care home meals and nutrition

Caring for the diet of our residents and making sure they have nutritious meals is an area where you'll find our managers, our staff and most importantly our chefs extremely engaged and active.

The catering and hospitality services teams at Balhousie Care Group are constantly looking at ways we can improve our food and refreshment offerings. Recently, new menus have been introduced that have a greater content of fresh, local produce. This is part of an ongoing process of  reviewing and responding to resident requests for more variety and choice.

In addition to the availability through the day of favourites such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate, our residents are also encouraged to drink a healthy amount of other fluids, including a special range of tasty squashes and refreshing fruit drinks to aid their hydration. This also makes a valuable contribution to bladder health and fitness.

By prior arrangement close family or relatives can join us at lunch or evening time to see for themselves just how tasty mealtimes at a Balhousie Care home can be.

Our weekly fee rates for full nursing care depend on individual circumstances. However as a guide, fees range from £550 (the Local Authority rate) per week. Residents may have specific care requirements and residents with higher dependency levels may incur additional fees. It is not possible to predetermine exact fee levels until a full assessment has been undertaken, following which residents will be provided with clear documentation outlining fees chargeable for their care. Charges for extras are kept to a minimum. The supply of personal newspapers, provision of hairdressing and other ancillary items will incur a small additional charge.

  • The home has full lift access to each floor and is wheelchair friendly
  • All resident bedrooms are decorated to a high standard
  • 24 hour call-alert system, television and telephone points

  • Two additional “quiet rooms” for residents to relax in
  • Meals are generally served in one of our two dining lounges, both of which have a pleasant view over the gardens
  • Residents can if they choose to take their meals in their own rooms, however we do regard the social interaction that takes place at meal times as an important part of the "holistic" approach we take to ensuring the welfare of our residents and encourage meal taking in the communal dining rooms
  • Hairdressing salon
  • Internet Corner, enabling residents to keep in touch with friends and family (often with a little help from our staff)
  • An active and valued residents and relatives committee where valuable feedback is given to Balhousie care staff regarding the care every resident receives
  • Popular daily activity programmes include exercise classes, indoor bowls, painting, gardening, sing-a-longs, jewellery making and flower arranging, film showings and quiz nights

Balhousie Antiquary Care Home provides nursing care to sixty residents, accommodated in modern en-suite bedrooms. Our residents are able to enjoy this stylish care home and its warm, convivial atmosphere, while being looked after by a genuinely enthusiastic and caring team. Balhousie Care Group is at the forefront of developing regional specialist care facilities for the growing number of residents affected by or living with various degrees of dementia in Scotland.

The adjoining "Westway Suite" is a twenty bedroom, self-contained facility specifically for residents with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. This purpose-built centre was designed to incorporate many special recognition and orientation features to help residents with dementia related conditions. The home also has bathrooms with specially equipped hydraulic lifts to aid staff providing personal care to residents with mobility challenges.
