I'm Elaine Smith, Care Home Manager, and welcome to Balhousie Glens Care Home, from our "Classic Collection". The Glens is situated in the charming village of Edzell, conveniently located just three miles from the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen trunk road. The home became part of the Balhousie Care Group in 2006. Converted from a hotel to a care home in early 2000, this care facility is surrounded by beautiful scenery with wonderful riverside walks, nature trails and a famous local golf course. The village of Edzell retains all of its olde worlde charm and is completely self-contained with shops, post office and bank. The village has won the coveted “Britain in Bloom Best Village” on many occasions. Together with its close-knit and supportive community, the area captivates everyone who visits and is without doubt the perfect place for peaceful, quiet and leisurely living. Our care home aptly reflects its surroundings with extensive and well kept gardens and magnificent views. Just a walk away from the local amenities, residents enjoy the variety this harmonious environment offers. Caring for the diet of our residents and making sure they have nutritious meals is an area where you'll find our managers, our staff and most importantly our chefs extremely engaged and active.
The catering and hospitality services teams at Balhousie Care Group are constantly looking at ways we can improve our food and refreshment offerings. Recently, new menus have been introduced that have a greater content of fresh, local produce. This is part of an ongoing process of reviewing and responding to resident requests for more variety and choice.
In addition to the availability through the day of favourites such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate, our residents are also encouraged to drink a healthy amount of other fluids, including a special range of tasty squashes and refreshing fruit drinks to aid their hydration. This also makes a valuable contribution to bladder health and fitness.
By prior arrangement close family or relatives can join us at lunch or evening time to see for themselves just how tasty mealtimes at a Balhousie Care home can be.
The Glens Annual Garden Party

Our weekly fee rates for full nursing care depend on individual circumstances. However as a guide, fees range from £474 (the Local Authority rate) per week. Residents may have specific care requirements and residents with higher dependency levels may incur additional fees. It is not possible to predetermine exact fee levels until a full assessment has been undertaken, following which residents will be provided with clear documentation outlining fees chargeable for their care. Charges for extras are kept to a minimum. The supply of personal newspapers, provision of hairdressing and other ancillary items will incur a small additional charge.
