Hello. I’m Tracy McEwan and I’m the very proud manager of Balhousie Methven Care Home.

Ours may not be the biggest care home in the Balhousie Care Group, but it does have a very big heart. The home is part of the small and friendly village of Methven, which lies 8km west of Perth amidst the rolling farmland of lowland Perthshire. Ours is a quiet and very peaceful location and yet we are just a short walk from all of the local amenities.

Features that visitors comment about are our intimate dining room with sliding patio door leading out onto the secure patio courtyard at the rear of the property and the beautiful display of roses, sweet peas around the home. This is a very relaxing, country village care home and is especially suitable and appealing for a resident looking for a tranquil environment.

care home meals and nutrition

Caring for the diet of our residents and making sure they have nutritious meals is an area where you'll find our managers, our staff and most importantly our chefs extremely engaged and active.

The catering and hospitality services teams at Balhousie Care Group are constantly looking at ways we can improve our food and refreshment offerings. Recently, new menus have been introduced that have a greater content of fresh, local produce. This is part of an ongoing process of reviewing and responding to resident requests for more variety and choice.

In addition to the availability through the day of favourites such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate, our residents are also encouraged to drink a healthy amount of other fluids, including a special range of tasty squashes and refreshing fruit drinks to aid their hydration. This also makes a valuable contribution to bladder health and fitness.

By prior arrangement close family or relatives can join us at lunch or evening time to see for themselves just how tasty mealtimes at a Balhousie Care home can be.

Our weekly fee rates for full nursing care depend on individual circumstances. However as a guide, fees range from £474 (the Local Authority rate) per week. Residents may have specific care requirements and residents with higher dependency levels may incur additional fees. It is not possible to predetermine exact fee levels until a full assessment has been undertaken, following which residents will be provided with clear documentation outlining fees chargeable for their care. Charges for extras are kept to a minimum. The supply of personal newspapers, provision of hairdressing and other ancillary items will incur a small additional charge.

Care Home Overview

14 comfortable single bedrooms, some of which are en suite
Single story, no stairs, wheelchair friendly, private and secure garden courtyard/patio area
Intimate dining room

All resident bedrooms have 24 hour call-alert system, television and telephone points. Our care home has a welcoming, homely and “cosy” character and is very popular with the residents who have now made it their home. Our cozy L-shaped lounge provides a happy and convivial environment where residents can socialise or relax. On warmer days residents are drawn to the outdoor patio area leading onto the secure, well maintained gardens overlooking the peaceful countryside view. Meals are served in the traditional style dining room which also provides access to the outdoor patio area. Residents are always welcome to take their meals in their own bedroom is they prefer.
